Context: (from Wikipedia)
“The wind phone (風の電話, kaze no denwa) is an unconnected telephone booth in Ōtsuchi, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, where visitors can hold one-way conversations with deceased loved ones. Initially created by garden designer Itaru Sasaki in 2010 to help him cope with his cousin's death, it was opened to the public in the following year after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami killed over 15,000 people in the Tōhoku region. The wind phone has since received over 30,000 visitors. A number of replicas have been constructed around the world, and it has served as the inspiration for several novels and films.”

My First attempt at Ai film making. 04.28.2025

Tools used: Midjourney V6 + Runway + Kling 2.0

Project completion: 48hrs (for RUNWAY GEN:48 Competition)

Backstory: I came across Kaze no denwa and left and imprint on me.

When the competition required an element of a telephone booth, my inspiration for Kaze no denwa resurfaced. With the capabilities of the early Runway engine, I landed on the tsunami scenes due to the close tie to the real wind phone.

my goal was to create emotional connection between the audience through ai + film making foundations.

Biggest Lessons learned:

  • Surreal shots I’ve dreamed of all my life are now finally accessible

  • The technology is often times hallucinating, I must fina a way to harness or figure out how it works.

  • applying 1-to-1 filmmaking logic is possible but not fully to the way I wish to have on set.

  • The results I look for has a specific workflow

  • Intention > Attention will be my way of honoring this powerful technology.
